Hong Kong cinema glams up for a night of celebration in Paris

4 July 2012 (Hong Kong) ¯ Possibly the most dazzling event of the Hong Kong in
Focus programme at the 10th Paris Cinema International Film Festival (PCIFF),
the "Hong Kong Night at Paris Cinema" cocktail party took place on 3 July 2012
at Shangri-La Hotel Paris.

In celebration of Hong Kong's diverse and ever-evolving cinema, as well as the
15th anniversary of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, the cocktail
reception was attended by renowned guests and promising young talents from the
Hong Kong film industry, including the exceptional action choreographer YUEN Wo
Ping, esteemed auteur Johnnie TO, two-time Best Actress winner at the Hong Kong
Film Awards, Kara WAI, Hong Kong New Wave leader Allen FONG, director of the
critically acclaimed High Noon, Heiward MAK, and Best New Director of the 31st
Hong Kong Film Awards, Jessey TSANG.

Mr. Jack SO, GBS, OBE, JP, Chairman of the Hong Kong Film Development Council,
Mr. Wilfred WONG, SBS, JP, Chairman of the Hong Kong International Film Festival
Society (HKIFFS), Mr. Peter LAM, Vice Chairman of the Hong Kong Film Development
Council, and Ms. Mary CHOW, Special Representative for Hong Kong Economic and
Trade Affairs to the European Union, were also present as representatives of the
Hong Kong host organisations.

It was a memorable and symbolic night as the Hong Kong delegation shared the
limelight with iconic names from French cinema, such as Olivier ASSAYAS and
Charlotte RAMPLING, President of the PCIFF. "We are thrilled to see so many
prominent figures showing their support for Hong Kong and its cinema. This has
been a wonderful opportunity to show that Hong Kong cinema is alive and
kicking!" said Roger GARCIA, Executive Director of the HKIFFS.

The Hong Kong in Focus programme (29 June - 10 July 2012) is a collaboration
between the HKIFFS and the PCIFF, presenting over 80 classic and rare titles
from 1948 to the present, the first time such an eclectic selection of Hong Kong
films has been shown in Paris. It is financially supported by Create Hong Kong,
Film Development Fund and Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office, Brussels.

A Simple Life Bags Two Awards at Paris Cinema International Film Festival

11 July 2012 (Hong Kong) ¯ Ann HUI's multiple award winning latest feature A Simple Life added yet another two accolades to its track record of critical success, snaring the Audience Award and the Students Award at the 10th Paris Cinema International Film Festival (PCIFF). The Students Award is made by a jury of nine students assisted by Festival President Charlotte Rampling.

The moving drama with superstar Andy LAU taking care of his nanny (Deanie IP) at the end of her life was up against eight other features in the International Competition section, short-listed from over 1100 titles from all over the world. "I am particularly delighted that A Simple Life won the Audience Award," Ann HUI commented. "It is thrilling to know that my film went beyond the support of local moviegoers and appealed to audiences in France."

This year the competition ran along with the special programme Hong Kong in Focus, an unprecedented collaboration between the PCIFF and the Hong Kong International Film Festival Society (HKIFFS) that celebrates both the 10th anniversary of the PCIFF and the 15th anniversary of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region with over 80 films from the post-war era to the present. The showcase includes a focus on Ann HUI, featuring her TV works in the Below The Lion Rock series, as well as early films that cemented her position as one of the most respected Hong Kong New Wave helmers, such as The Secret (1979) and The Story of Woo Viet (1981).
