French director to make Haruki Murakami's novel 'Norwegian Wood' into film

"Norwegian Wood/挪威的森林/ ノルウェイの森," the best-selling novel by Japanese writer Haruki Murakami/春樹村上, will be made into a film for the first time, production company Asmik Ace Entertainment Inc. advised.

The film will be directed by Vietnamese-born French director Tran Anh Hung/陈英雄, who will also write the screenplay. The characters have not yet been cast. Inspired by the novel translated into French, Tran proposed his idea of the film adaptation to Murakami in 2004.

Some of Murakami's novels, including his 1979 debut "Hear the Wind Sing" and the 1990 short story "Tony Takitani," have been made into films.

"Norwegian Wood" (1987) depicts the loss and rebirth of a soul through romantic relationships between the main character "I," who is a university student, and two different women. About 8.7 million copies of the novel -- including paperbacks -- have been published.

Tran is well known for his lyrical films such as "The Scent of Green Papaya" and "The Vertical Ray of the Sun." He will start shooting "Norwegian Wood" in February next year, and the film will be released in 2010.

Et nombre de lecteurs pensent qu'il est le comédien idéal pour incarner le héros de l'histoire. Tony Leung est resté ami avec Tran Ahn Hung depuis Cyclo. Seul réalisateur viet connu dans nos contrées ( le cinéma vietnamien n'existe pas, et d'ailleurs Tran Anh Hung est français), ses films sont intéressants même si je les trouve un peu trop tape-à-l'oeil niveau exotisme... Ses films sont destinés à l'occident. On attend son retour quand même. :) -------------------- Je recherche le numéro 5 du magazine HK orient-extrème (celui sur Kitano) Contactez-moi!
