Hey all, Well I'm really a big fan of asian movies, and when i was searching for a good site about the movies I just found HK Cinemagic. The site is one of my favourites, and I hope to meet some nice people at this boards . I can't speak French, so i'll just stay in this part of it . The last thing I can say is that I'm a really big fan of the actor Chow Yun Fat, and that my nickname is taken from one of his acts. Well, I think that's it. See Ya

Ni hao! My interest in kung fu cinema began in the late 70s. I would watch 'Kung Fu Theater' on KTLA, channel 5, weekend afternoons. Recently, i began collecting DVDs. My collection is about 200 titles deep. My son is convinced this is near record-breaking in size, though I assure him it is rather a rookie collection. I am delighted to find hkcinemagic. I hope to learn more about the martial arts movies in my collection by becoming a member of this great site.

> I must dissappoint your son: 200 is not record breaking, but sure it's quite a lot if you started recently. Further it's not quantity that counts but quality! It's very easy to have a big collection if you have enough money and can buy everything you can get. |
> I should clarify that my collection's quantity in no way reflects its quality. mine is indeed a case of 'buying whatever I find'. This 'affordable' approach bears witness to my ignorance. Still, I watch them all and find measurable enjoyment in all but the most offensive stinkers. In short, my collection was easily and quickly obtained, as you suggested. Perhaps there is a place for my growing knowledge of shoddy kung fu movies? Hahaa! I would imagine that, if I am active enough, I should find occassion to share some knowledge. Certainly to warn, if not enlighten, ne?
Thank you for welcoming me!

Thank you, Pieter. Thank you, J-L. Indeed, Pieter, 99% of my kung fu DVDs are dubbed into (British?) English. I agree that this post-production 'translation' process denies the viewer much of the film creator's original vision. An example which comes to mind is the English dub of Zhang Ziyi in 'Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon'. The dubbing conveys an oddly confident woman, contrary to the naivete of the character's young mind. I notice this dub-struction is evident in animation as well. I would enjoy a source of quality martial arts films, original voice tracks intact, for purchase. I know I can be schooled on this within the HKCinemagic community, ne?

I think a lot is lost when you can't understand Chinese and have to read subs, but dubbed versions are even worse. I buy my DVDs at DVDyNOT. Their site isn't great and sometimes the 'order status' doesn't show the right information, but till now I never had problems with the orders (about 15 orders). Looking for more shops? Have a look here.

Hi! Look how naughty I am! I have not even introduced myself, yet, though I'm on this forum for a while! To be honest I found HKCinemagic a long time ago, and I liked it a lot, visited regularly, because it's trustable, full of informations, updated etc. My name is Katalin, which is Kate in English. I'm Hungarian, 37 years old secular worker in a Parish Church! Don't tell my priest that my homepage is dedicated to a "Taoist Priest"! My best friend (we know each other for 22 years) is to be blamed for my becoming a massive LCY fan, as she introduced me to the world of Hong Kong movies. But I'm not angry at her at all. On the contrary!!! I'm happy that I found you and that I joined this forum! Bye!
