HongKong Cinemagic Forum > Identification requests > Buddha Is Great

Hi there,

I'm new to this forums and would be happy if you could help me identifiying this old classic, I'm searching for a while now.

I recall one scene which was very impressive:

There's a shack in the woods where our hero and his friends are staying in. Some day, a procession of buddhist monks wander towards the shack. They are carrying the suprior monk, a small rat faced kind of guy. At first, our friends are happy to see the monks, but then the monks start to chant a mantra. In the process, a giant buddha statue appears and the friends are drawn to it (buddha is great and stuff). Off course, they die when approaching the figure which was cast by the mantras. While this is happening, the rat faced superior monk is shown frequently, incantating these mantras. I think, only our hero can break the spell upon him and tries to warn his friends.

That's all I can remember. Does somebody know this movie/scene?

Thanks for reading

Hi Deliberation,

welcome.gif to this forum.
Sounds like a very interesting movie to me, but I'm afraid I can't help you goutte.gif
I do hope someone else can.

Thank you for your welcome.gif!

I did some research (again), studied unnumerous lists of martial arts movies and finally got a hint:

The monk I've described above, is also playing in "The Swordsman" from 1990. It's the same actor named Shun Lau but the wrong movie. So I studied his history and came across a role he played called "High Priest". And guess what, I've finally found the movie and it is: A Chinese Ghost Story II.

Nice sequel to the famous first part. smile.gif
