On the oher hand, I am a fan of funnyman Richard Ng, who was probably the funniest guy in HK movie industry in the 70's and 80's (with Karl Maka). I do admire Stephen Chow, but I think I prefer Ng because he seems to be a humble actor.
I have a Jade Screen magazine in which he was interviewed, and even if his hair turned grey now, his face hasn't changed at all, especially his renowned chin
!He explained in the interview that he was born in 1939 in HK, and was sent to an English school at age 15 (which means he can speak English !). He was always interested in movie industry (he used to go to theatres when he lived in London). He is married to an Englishwoman, and they lived in the UK from the mid-50's to 1970. His wife opened a hairdresser salon in HK, and they had a regular client who worked for TVB (the famous HK TV Channel). One day, he asked if Ng could do some acting or extra (he did when he was living in England), and our future funnyman accepted some jobs and shows on TV. His big break was in the famous Hui Brothers' comedy "The Private Eyes" (he explained his role in that movie was a spin off from his TV show). He was typed as a comedian very early even if he learned acting in the drama society.
You see, as a HK student living in the UK, he didn't go the a Chinese Opera school like Sammo Hung and Jackie Chan. Sammo who was the action director in the Hui comedy became one of his closiest friend in the movie business.
Ng also adds that John Sham was never a trained actor, but he was bald earlier in his career
