Si Xing Hua Yuan / Le Jardin des condamnés à mort / 死刑花园 est un projet ambitieux que le cinéaste chinois Zhang Yuan (张元) - Les Petites fleurs rouges - porte depuis quelques temps.
Projet auparavant intitulé 1933, puis Le Jardin du bourreau /刽子手的花园 / Executioner Garden.
Après avoir présenté son scénario dans divers festivals, Zhang Yuan et ses producteurs chinois sont venus à Cannes pour trouver des investisseurs étrangers.
Zhang Yuan a l'intention de réunir un casting international pour ce film d'anticipation ("Une fable sur la société future", selon le cinéaste).
Il aimerait que Morgan Freeman rejoigne le casting.

Synopsis :

In a prison in Shanghai, the warden walks with his secretary and his assistant into a
heavily guarded room to witness the execution of a prisoner. The warden holds a
serious discussion with the poor man as to how to carry out his death sentence.
The prisoner requests whether it is possible to have his life terminated while he is still
in motion. So the prison arranges a hunting game of death for him. An old-styled gun is
fired and his head is virtually blown away.
The warden feels pretty satisfied about this seemingly successful execution until his
secretary hurries in, saying “The inspector is coming!”
As the plot unfold, we find out that the inspector was once imprisoned right here some
20 years ago. He befriended the gardener, Mr. Fei, who used to be an executioner
back then and who unintentionally saved his life.
In order to please the inspector, a grand banquet is held in the prison, where all the
prisoners are ordered either to entertain or to serve the honored guests. At the
banquet, the pretty secretary proposes that every prisoner should tell a story that
he believes is the most horrible one. Therefore, death related stories are heard
one after another.
The wasteful banquet is followed by licentious scenes wherein the warden and
his secretary are playing the game of hide and seek in the dark penitentiary totally
naked. Eventually she lands on top of his body.
The next morning, the young assistant shows the inspector around the execution
chamber. The inspector sighs emotionally. From what he says we learn that the
execution chamber will be put into use again. Right at that moment, the warden runs
in, apologizing for not being able to show up before the tour started. It was because
the party ran late last night, he explained. While rebuking his assistant, the warden
flirts with his secretary. To his surprise, the warden finds that everyone returns a
fishy stare.
Mr. Fei, who has changed back into his uniform, walks towards the warden. The
ceremony begins. Today it is the warden who is going to be executed. All the people
witness the death of the warden. Then the secretary solemnly reports to the assistant
- the new warden, “He is dead.” |
